Nice to meet you!

Evelyn Moldal ﹒

Executive Director

Evelyn Moldal, a visionary leader in the neurodiverse community, has dedicated her life to fostering effective communication and inclusive spaces. With a foundation in education, Evelyn's journey took her from a 15-year tenure as an elementary school teacher within the Pinellas County School District to a profound exploration of Spelling to Communicate (S2C) since 2017.

At Invictus Academy Tampa Bay, Evelyn's role evolved from teacher to Communication Specialist, impacting students, educators, and parents alike by enhancing their skills and fluency with letter boards. This experience propelled her to venture into the private sector, where she now serves as a full-time S2C Practitioner, working with individuals and small groups. Evelyn's influence extends internationally as an I-ASC mentor, guiding practitioners in training.

In June 2022, Evelyn's unwavering commitment materialized in the opening of Meraki Collective, a hub of empowerment catering to clients of all ages in the St. Petersburg/Tampa Bay region.

Evelyn's passion extends beyond the professional realm. As President of the Tampa Bay Letter Board Community (TBLBC), she spearheads a local nonprofit organization uniting the nonspeaking and neurodiverse communities. Her vision is one of acceptance, inclusion, and access, showcased through community events that warmly welcome all.

Evelyn Moldal stands as a beacon of advocacy, education, and empowerment, shaping a more inclusive world for neurodiverse individuals and their families.

Joy Schneider-Scheu ﹒

S2C Practitioner

Joy Schneider-Scheu first served her community by establishing her own business in the beauty industry. For 16 years she delighted in helping her clients  feel confident, empowered, and ready to face the world.

When each of her three sons were diagnosed with Autism and Apraxia their family was ushered down the usual path. After countless hours of traditional therapies and special education with little progress, Joy sold her business in 2013 to homeschool her boys. It was during this time she discovered her gift for supporting Apraxic bodies to gain the purposeful motor skills needed to navigate daily life skills while gaining an education and maintaining regulation.

In 2016 their family truly began to flourish with the addition of Spelling to Communicate. S2C gave Joy’s non, minimally and unreliably speaking sons a consistent and reliable means of communication. The shift was so dynamic that Joy knew she had to share her experience with other families like her own. In 2017 she became an S2C practitioner .  Joy offers in clinic and in-home S2C sessions that include modeling effective motor prompting and regulation strategies for parents, family and caregivers.  Joy is now delighted to help a whole new community of individuals feel confident, empowered and ready to face the world!

Julianne Cohen ﹒

Professor, Author & Editor

Julianne fell in love with books at 4 years old when her mother left The Wizard of Oz on the night table next to a crayon…and in the dead of night, in a circle of lamplight, she colored messages to Dorothy in the margins.

Editing, teaching and writing for 37 years, she graduated eons ago from UC Irvine’s MFA Programs in Writing where she taught undergraduate courses in composition, fiction writing and literature before moving to private editing. Her short fiction appeared in Alaska Quarterly, The Rattling Wall, Salmagundi and many others. She is co-editor, with Samantha Dunn, of fiction anthology Women on the Edge: Writing from Los Angeles. Her daughter Lulu started S2C last year and her greatest joy is witnessing spellers share their voices with the world. Her firm belief is that you are our teachers, here to change the world with your vision and voice.
